The Greener Berry

The iPhone Eyes BlackBerry’s Turf: But Apple still has a ways to go to catch up with RIM in the lucrative corporate market

Isn’t Apple better off conquering the uncharted consumer market where it already has a halo effect instead of playing in a field led by a strong company with crazy market dominance?

It’s understandable that the enterprise market is more lucrative but the consumer market can be made lucrative too. How many consumers use BlackBerries? Quite a number. So there’s an underserved market, the key is to expand it.

It’s an easier task than stealing a strong leader’s lunch.

On the other hand though, there’s always room for a good alternative. After all, Apple is a number two to Microsoft with a share of less than 10% of the operating systems market.

Should Apple want to crack the enterprise market, it should conquer an area where RIM is not strong. One that comes to mind is the SME market. Corporations might have big orders but there are more SME than corporations.
