Mark J. Penn, an adviser to Bill and Hillary Clinton since 1995 and a top adviser to Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign wrote in an op-ed in the NYT stating that Hilary’s lack of adequate funds was the problem and not her message.
Mr Penn actually proves his own point. How do you get more funds than your opponent in the first place? How do you get people to hand you more money than your competitors? How does Bill Gates get more people to use his operating system than Steve Jobs’?
In politics, just like marketing, the winner takes all. ALL! (In this case, the money and subsequently the votes)
How does the politician or entrepreneur become the winner? By leveraging an idea or concept that wins more voters or clients and customers than the opponent or competitor.
Mr Penn, the problem was the message and it manifested itself in inadequate resources. That’s how everything went south.
I am not sure but something tells me that Mr Obama started his campaign with fewer funds than Mrs Clinton. Yet, he overtook her by an almost scary amount. Yes, his tactics were also smarter but his idea was just stronger.
