Betting on a Jennifer Lopez Fragrance for Men
It’s one thing for celebrities to create their own fashion or fragrance brands and it’s another for them to endorse them (via advertising).
Marketing history has shown that not many celebrity brands do well for the simple reason that in the public’s opinion, their claim to prominence is what makes them famous not other ventures they dabble in.
Jennifer Lopez seems to be the exception as her fragrance brands seems to have been voted for favorably by female consumers. The obvious key to
It turns out that now she’s launching Deseo for Men to complement Deseo for Women.
Deseo for Men faces two hurdles:
1) It’s a brand from a celebrity and historically they do not sell well like mentioned earlier
2) Not many men will want to wear a fragrance that stems from a women’s fragrance. In the past, one of the major brands tried that concept and it backfired (I don’t remember the exact brand but I suspect Channel).
So will the Jennifer Lopez male fragrance idea fly? I am betting against. Now, we have to wait for time to give us the verdict.
Note: Marketing is full of surprises… that brand may become a hit with some women!
