About Those “Stupid Business” Ideas of All Time
Every now and then, every business part of us likes to poke at so called stupid business decisions and wonder how any sane person had allowed such mistakes to occur.
After all, how can intelligent and well paid people who excel in their field make such blunders?
Here’s an example of some Stupidest Business Decisions in History.
The aspect most people seem to miss is that it’s very easy to judge an idea after the facts. Like that quote that I hate so much says “Hindsight is 20/20”
But when the events are occurring, the situation is all different. That’s because change is unpredictable.
Who, for instance, would have ever thought that record labels would ever face troubled times?
Who thought Harry Potter would become a billion dollar craze? How many similar books had been written before? Thousands…
Change is an unpredictable beast. No one can control it and no one can predict it.
The new Coke was a flop but it could have been a hit too. There was no way to find out until the drink hit the marketplace.
Imagine what would have happened if Coke never really launched it and another company had and the whole world had adopted the novelty as its drink of choice?
Would Coke still be around?
Personally, I never see marketing failures as stupid. I am no follower of baseball but if I am not mistaken people who have a lot of hits still have more misses overall. What if they had stopped trying after the third miss?
For instance, is the iPhone going to be a hit or miss? What other stupid ideas are going nowhere right now? It’s now kind of hard to pass judgment, isn’t it?
