You never know where you are going to see in action one of the marketing theories you do business by.
I had my lesson today. As I was having a coffee with a good friend who happens to be very beautiful, I started teasing her telling her that other ladies at the café would think that we were involved and therefore, it would make it harder for me to make my move.
What she replied gave me an “Aha!” moment.
She jokingly said that the fact we spend time together was going to make me more attractive to women.
Just when I was about to chirp something smart-assed, I paused and realised that she was on the money.
She actually told me about a simple trick I use and share with my clients and readers on how to command immediate attention, credibility or respect in places where people do not know you or in situations where your credibility level is low.
When you are entrepreneur approaching investors, they will be more at ease with your ideas and let go their millions easier if you are associated with someone or something that commands respect and/or attention.
If I had to raise capital for a new business, I would make sure that I find a respected person to endorse my ideas before I present them to investors. If I have to pay off the respected authority or promise them stock, I would do it. After all, I would rather get one million to build a powerful business than raise ten thousands dollars to have competitors crush me just as the race begins because they have more resources than I do.
If I had to start a new design business, I would approach someone who communicates with my prospective clients and offer him free website development with the assumed fact that he will give me credit for the work if he or she appreciates it.
I guess that’s why parents spend their hard-earned cash to send their children to the Harvards, Yales, McGills and other prestigious university as an investment in their career. Unfortunately what they tend to forget is that these institutions cater to thousands of individuals and that they end up vying for the same limited positions making the whole thinking self-defeating.
The hanging out with a beautiful woman, getting a famous person to endorse my pitch to investors, designing the site of a respect authority and sending my kid to Harvard is what is generally referred to as “If this person is good enough to hang around a hot woman/ get a hot recommendation from a business guru/ design a site of a god/ attend the most prestigious school, then he or she is good enough to command out attention and respect”.
Humans… although we call ourselves complex and different from other mammals we are not really that far off.
