“Normally I don’t do this”

by Jean Biri

How many times have you heard people say that to you or about something they did?

Almost once a week if you have enough friends or people you are in constant communication with.

I am guilty of that too. Once in a while I do things that surprise me the most as I would have never thought that of all people I would do them.

Consumers are like that. They are unpredictable. They do things they normally don’t do. But this is an exception.

This exception means that they normally do things that they usually do. One of the most common trait of human beings is to do what the majority of their peers do.

If most people find a movie good, most people will go see it as a result.

If most people find Walmart the best place to save money on shopping, most people will shop as result

And so on

That’s the general rule. So leaders stay leaders most of time just by the simple fact that they are leaders.

Before I confuse myself and every reader, let me get to my point. If you have some sort of leadership make sure that your current customers and prospects now it.

Current customers or clients will feel that they have made a good choice by doing business with you and prospective customers will think that if you are the most popular you must be the best.

That’s a concept very visible in the restaurant business. If you have no line-up in front of your establishment during peak times, prospective patrons get suspicious “If there’s no line-up it must not be that great”

Any normal person knows that just because a product or service is popular it does not necessarily mean that it’s any better. But he or she somehow leaves his or her common sense when it’s in things like music, film, restaurants, nightclubs and pretty much most things.

I don’t know why as humans we do that but one thing is sure. Understanding that principle can mean money in the bank if you are smart a business person
